History of our church
The Original Grant of lands – Government Order dated 27th April 1882. His Highness the Maharaja of Mysore sanctioned the grant of lands to the Eurasian & Anglo-Indian Association (E & AI), Mysore Branch.Church Plot: The original grant of land to Memorial Church shown as part of the plan of the Village Site (30 acres divided into 24 plots) and which is itself part of a representation of the E & AI Association to the Government of H.H the Maharaja of Mysore.Among the undertakings the Association pledged itself to carry out for the benefit of intending settlers, when the land scheme was projected, was to build a place of public worship. In the meanwhile, the late Mr. Gage had donated a sum of Rs. 500/= for the same purpose.Subsequently a subscription was raised in Madras to perpetuate the memory of the late Rev. Dr. Henry Bower a prominent member of the Anglo-Indian Community. These sums of money were afterwards lumped together and with further subscriptions and donations raised, independent of any contributions from the Association, the present building, planned by the late Mr. Alex Barren of Madras, was erected, under the local supervision of Mr. A. H. Greenham under the direction of Mr. Barren. It was completed in 1886 and was Consecrated on Tenth of May that very year.In August 1894 the E & AI Association of Mysore and Coorg renounced all connection with the control of the building and responsibility for its maintenance and the building consequently came into the possession of the settlers, who since then by mutual arrangement have maintained and used it for the purpose for which it was intended. It was thenceforward, by mutual agreement controlled by a Church Committee consisting of four members – two Church of England and two Non-Conformists, and supported by a common purse.The first Committee of 1894 consisted of – Mr. D. M. Paul (Church of England) Mr. G. Crooks (Church of England) Dr. D. Stewart (Wesleyan Church) Capt. H. Foster (Episcopal Methodist Church)Alternate Church of England and Non-Conformist services were held by members duly approved of, and visiting clergy held services whenever they came to the Settlement.In or about 1898-1899 trouble arose through some subscribers to the Church being refused a vote at the Annual Meeting as a result of which the Church was barred against all denominations on the advice of Advocate Honourable J. Lawrence.On a representation made to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. B. L. Krishna Rao, the then Superintendent of Police was deputed to hold an enquiry and at a meeting of all the Settlers with Mr. Krishna Rao in the Chair an agreement was arrived at with the consent of all parties and subsequently endorsed by the Deputy Commissioner. The terms with which have since and are being carried out by the Board of Trustees.The principal terms of the agreement are: The formation of a Board of Trustees consisting of two Church of England members elected by the Church of England Congregation and two Non-Conformist members, elected by the Non-Conformist. The Secretary to the Board of Trustees to be elected by the Trustees, to have custody of the Church Building and appurtenances and to collect half the monthly cost of maintenance from each of the congregations.THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE BOARD WERE: Mr. W. Green Church of England Mr. D. H. Strang Church of England Mr. D. Stewart Non-Conformist Mr. P. Thorpe Non-Conformist Mr. T. P. L. Joseph Secretary.Alternate services to be held by duly authorised persons and half the expenditure on all counts to be met by each congregation.On the lines laid down above the two congregations, Church of England Section and Non-Conformist (Wesleyan) Section formed their respective Church Committees to regulate the conduct of their worship services, to collect subscriptions in order to defray a moiety of the monthly expenses and other recurring charges incurred by the Secretary Of the Board of Trustees and such expenses as well incurred by each Committee itself in the way of providing for the distinctive requirements of its own congregation such as the purchase of hymn books etc.The Secretary of each (congregation) Committee has in all matters been the channel of communication between the Secretary of the Board of Trustees and the Committee of each Congregation.In 1977 the surviving congregation of the Church of England offered its space to the Church of South India (C.S.I) and to this day this C.S.I form of worship is followed. Its prayers and supplications as well as the format are akin to the Church of England. However as per the order of the Deputy Commissioner, the edifice and the property continue to be managed by the Board of Trustees and they regulate the special functions from time to time.RECENT HISTORY: On the Sixth of July, year of our Lord 2008 A Revival Mass was celebrated by his Lordship the Rt. Rev. Samuel T. Ponniah being the celebrant. On this day (6th July 2008) he appointed Rev Fr. Stefan C. Joel as our Vicar.Since that day, these handful of worshipers (seven in number), have been able to go back to the roots of their faith wherein they were Baptised and brought up in, worshipping under the stewardship Fr. Stefan.Fr. Stefan is an expert in Ritual Worship and had specialised knowledge of Orthodox Worship techniques; including Incantations, Sacrificial Acts and Ceremonials. This quickly enabled the Seven Revivalist to get into sync with the Orthodox Anglican Worship, which they were accustomed to past.In February 2009 Rev Fr Darryl Taylor succeeded Fr Stefan. Fr. Stefan had to move to greater responsibilities in the Diocese of Madras. Our Little Church continued to grow with younger members joining in worship. Fr. Taylor’s unceasing efforts, dedicated interaction and regular home visits he added Two New members in to our family of Seven Anglicans making it Nine members after the Service of Reconciliation.Fr Darryl also adhered to the Orthodox Traditions and Practices of the Anglican Faith. Fr Darryl Taylor resigned in April of 2011 due to medical reasons. The Bishop of Madras, Anglican Church of India, did not post a permanent Priest for our Church but instead posted a part time priest - Rev. Fr. Anandhraj, who was the Vicar of Christ Church, Basavangudi. This change was taken in the right spirit by the Congregation and the programmes of the Church and its outreach functioned without any interruption.In May of 2013 Fr. Anandhraj resigned from the Diocese of Madras and the Bishop accepted his resignation. This left us without a Priest. Our representation fell on deaf years and the congregation was feeling the lack of a permanent priest.Furthermore, we forwarded applications that we received from time to time from Priests willing to serve our Church to the Bishop of Madras, Anglican Church of India. These were, on some pretext or the other, summarily dismissed by the Bishop.This placed our church in a difficult situation. Not having an ordained priest would result in the non-celebration of the Holy Eucharist in our Church. The only answer that we got from the office of the Bishop of Madras was that he had no Priest to post to serve our Congregation.The Trustees of Church met and decided to search globally for an Anglican denomination and to request them to take this our Little Church and its Congregation into their fold. Mrs Margaret Lunel, one of the Trustees, was given the charge to send emails with this request.In hindsight, what we went through was divine guidance. This search led us to the Church of India, Pakistan, Burma and Ceylon (originally Church of India, Burma and Ceylon), who are the rightful successors of the Province III of the Church of England in India. This Church of India, Burma and Ceylon was incorporated in the Act of 1927 of the English Parliament and later enshrined in the constitution of India upon Independence.Our Trustee’s email extracted an instant response from none other than the Metropolitan (Archbishop) himself. He called Mrs Lunel and assured her not to worry and that all would be well. He further deputed the Venerable Stefan Joel, the Provincial Secretary to immediately visit us and assess the situation.During the course of the first week of June 2013, Venerable Stefan Joel was appointed as Administrator and regular worship began, we having lost out just one Sunday, the first Sunday in June, when the Holy Eucharist was not celebrated in our Parish.In August 2013, Church of India - CIPBC appointed Rev. Karunakara as Vicar of our church. He now celebrates the Holy Eucharist every Sunday and on Festivals. He is also present in our Church precinct on three days of the week.Soon after his appointment to our Parish, the congregation began to see the real persona of this gentleman. He was keener on the worldly attributes than the spiritual matters of the Parish. He was keener to control the purse than the nourishment of the soul of his flock. He being an autocrat and a short-tempered individual, the members of the congregation were beginning to lose interest in the Church. His scant knowledge of Anglican Heritage and Traditions made it difficult for the office bearers to keep this little parish together and move forward thanks to his constant opposition.The Office Bearer brought these difficulties to the notice of the Metropolitan, Church of India – CIPBC from time to time. On October 4th. 2014 the office bearers met with the Metropolitan at Lucknow and expressed their serious reservations of Rev Karunakara and that his continuation was detrimental to their parish. After due deliberations, His Grace mentioned that there was a young ordained priest at The Union Biblical Seminary Pune (Serampore University) studying for his Masters in Theology. If were to sponsor him, we could have this seminarian as our permanent priest.Upon the return to Whitefield the Vestry Committee was informed of the Metropolitan’s offer. Immediate support to Seminarian Rev. Gabriel was authorized and actioned as we had never managed to get a resident priest (24/7) to our parish. Noticing this unanimous action by the Vestry Committee Rev. Karunakara resigned in July 2015 vide a letter to the Metropolitan casting many unconfirmed allegations on the Vestry Committee; unable to provide even one iota of evidence requested the Metropolitan to relive him by September 2015.The Metropolitan accepted the resignation of Rev Karunakara and posted Ven. Stefan once more to our parish as a care taker priest until Seminarian Rev Fr. Gabriel completed his studies and was able to take over as the Vicar of our Church.The Metropolitan appointed Rev Fr. Gabriel to our Parish in March 2016 and he assumed office on 1st. April 2016. Being eager to learn, he picked up our Liturgy, Traditions and Practices quickly. Our Little Church began to grow once more with younger members joining in worship.With Fr. Gabriel’s unceasing interpersonal skills, his dedicated interaction with young worshipers and regular home visits he added Two New members in to our family of Nine Anglicans; making it a total of Eleven members after the Service of Reconciliation. He had begun “Once A Month Discourse” and “Bible Study on Saturdays”. He played many roles towards Fundraising and other Welfare schemes.Through historical research, he devised ways to reach the Holy Eucharist at the door of every Parishioner, every Sunday, without fail, during Covid. He did not break any law of the land nor the restrains placed by the Administration. He went beyond the call of his duty to nourish the Souls of his flock during troubled and uncertain times. Fr. Gabriel also initiated the use of YouTube as a mode of reaching out to all.Fr, Gabriel returned to his home town at the demise of his father and to take care of his aging mother and other personal matters. He left for his home town in June 2021.Ven. Stefan was appointed in August 2021 as a Visiting Priest and regular Sunday Worship continued with the Holy Eucharist being celebrated at every worship.Rev Fr. Lopez was appointed as the Vicar in November 2021. Apart from the regular functioning of our church Fr. Lopez, during his tenure, and at his initiative expanded the Communication Platform of our Church once more. We witnessed the opening up of our Communications to the globe by him starting a Daily Scriptural Bulletin on Facebook, during important seasons. He began to post daily bulletins on “The Lord’s Prayer”, “The Apostles Creed”, “The Nicene Creed”, “Do We Do What Jesus Said”, “Bible Verses For Lent”, “Find The Light” (Advent) and “The Commands of Jesus”. Fr. Lopez also began to write on “The Lives of Saints”, accepted by the Anglican Denomination, on the last page of the Pew Slips. These information on these saints he would collect through research, some books were given by the Bishop of Madras.
Due to ill health Fr. Lopez had to return home for treatment and convalescing. He left for his home town in January 2024.Ven. Fr. Stefan was once again appointed in January 2024 as a Visiting Priest. Regular Sunday Worship continued without a break and the Holy Eucharist was celebrated at every worship.Rev Fr Christopher was appointed as Vicar in May 2024...Surely our Almighty and Eternal God has His plans for our Little Church and its Congregation. We have been through many stumbling blocks and are certain that we will come across others in the future… But we are absolutely confident that our Heavenly Father will not allow us to drift into a situation of no return as long as we do not adopt to “Just Lip Service” but do carry out our individual responsibilities to look after Her as well as promulgate the TEACHINGS of Jesus Christ that she stands for.Every trial that we have faced to date, has always taken us a positive step forward and not dithered us in our Faith nor shaken our steadfast adherence to our Anglican Heritage and Traditions.To God be all Glory… Great things He Hath Done.Trustees

Spirit Of God, Descend Upon My HeartAuthor: George Croly (1854)
1 Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move.
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art,
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.2 Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.3 Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
One holy passion filling all my frame;
The kindling of the heav’n-descended Dove,
My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame.
Spirit Of The Living God, Fall Fresh On MeAuthor: Daniel Iverson (1926)
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Come, Holy Ghost, Our Souls InspireThe Right Reverend Bishop John Cosin - 1625
1 Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,
And lighten with celestial fire;
Thou the anointing Spirit art,
Who dost Thy sevenfold gifts impart.2 Thy blessèd unction from above
Is comfort, life, and fire of love;
Enable with perpetual light
The dullness of our blinded sight.3 Anoint and cheer our soilèd face
With the abundance of Thy grace;
Keep far our foes; give peace at home;
Where Thou art guide, no ill can come.4 Teach us to know the Father, Son,
And Thee, of both, to be but One;
That through the ages all along
This, this may be our endless song.

Bishop of Calcutta, The Right Revd. Reginald Heber (1783-1825)
1 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!2 Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and Seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.3 Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man, thy glory may not see:
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power in love, and purity.4 Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, Holy, Holy! merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Most Ancient Of All MysteriesFrederick William Faber (1813-1863)
1 Most ancient of all mysteries,
Before Thy throne we lie;
Have mercy now, most merciful,
Most holy Trinity.2 When heav'n and earth were yet unmade,
When time was yet unknown,
Thou in Thy bliss and majesty
Didst live and love alone.3 Thou wert not born; there was no fount
From which Thy Being flowed;
There is no end which Thou canst reach;
But Thou art simply God.4 How wonderful creation is,
The work which Thou didst bless,
And O what then must Thou be like,
Eternal loveliness!5 O listen then, most pitiful,
To Thy poor creature's heart:
It blesses Thee that Thou art God,
That Thou art what Thou art.6 Most ancient of all mysteries,
Still at thy throne we lie;
Have mercy now, most merciful,
Most holy Trinity.

The Collect
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who art always more ready to hear than we are to pray, and art wont to give more than either we desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of thy mercy; forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask, but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord. Amen.
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of All Nature
Rev. Joseph Augustus Seiss 1873
1 Fairest Lord Jesus,
ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish,
Thee will I honour,
Thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.2 Fair are the meadows,
fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer
who makes the woeful heart to sing.3 Fair is the sunshine,
fairer still the moonlight,
and all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.4 Beautiful Saviour!
Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honour,
praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.

Jesus, Lover of My Soul
Charles Wesley (1740) - Tune Aberystwyth
1 Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
Oh, receive my soul at last.2 Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless head3 With the shadow of Thy wing.
Wilt Thou not regard my call?
Wilt Thou not accept my prayer?
Lo! I sink, I faint, I fall -
Lo! on Thee I cast my care.
Reach me out Thy gracious hand!
While I of Thy strength receive,
Hoping against hope I stand,
Dying, and behold, I live.4 Thou, O Christ, art all I want,
More than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name,
Source of all true righteousness;
Thou art evermore the same,
Thou art full of truth and grace.5 Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart;
Rise to all eternity.

Rejoice, The Lord Is King!
Charles Wesley - Tune: Gopsal (G F Handel)
1 Rejoice, the Lord is King! your Lord and King adore;
mortals give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice, again I say, rejoice!2 Jesus, the saviour, reigns, the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our stains he took his seat above;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!3 His kingdom cannot fail, he rules both earth and heaven,
the keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!4 He sits at God's right hand till all his foes submit,
and bow to his command, and fall beneath his feet:
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!5 Rejoice in glorious hope! Jesus the Judge shall come,
and take his servants up to their eternal home.
We soon shall hear the archangel's voice;
God's trumpet call shall sound, rejoice!

To God Be The Glory, Great Things
He Hath Done
Fanny Crosby (1875) - Tune: Doane
1 To God be the glory, great things he hath done:
so loved he the world that he gave us his son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life gate that all may go in.Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done.2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to ev’ry believer the promise of God.
The vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.Refrain:3 Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son,
but purer, and higher, and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.Refrain

O GOD, our refuge and strength, who art the author of all godliness: Be ready, we beseech thee, to hear the devout prayers of thy Church; and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Worship The King
Robert Grant (1779 – 1838) based upon Psalm 104Tune: Hanover
1 O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing His power and His love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendour, and girded with praise.2 O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.3 The earth with its store of wonders untold,
Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old;
Established it fast by a changeless decree,
And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.4 Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.5 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.6 O measureless might! Ineffable love!
While angels delight to worship Thee above,
The humbler creation, though feeble their lays,
With true adoration shall all sing Thy praise.

Forth In The Peace Of Christ We Go
Rev James Quinn (1919) – Tune Duke Street
1 Forth in the peace of Christ we go;
Christ to the world with joy we bring;
Christ in our minds, Christ in our lips,
Christ in our hearts, the world's true King.2 King of our hearts, Christ makes us kings;
Kingship with Him His servants gain;
With Christ, the Servant-Lord of all,
Christ's world we serve to share Christ's reign.3 Priests of the world, Christ sends us forth
The world of time to consecrate,
The world of sin by grace to heal,
Christ's world in Christ to recreate.4 Prophets of Christ, we hear His word:
He claims our minds, to search His ways,
He claims our lips, to speak His truth,
He claims our hearts, to sing His praise.5 We are the Church; He makes us one:
Here is one hearth for all to find,
Here is one flock, one Shepherd-King,
Here is one faith, one heart, one mind.

Rejoice, The Lord Is King
Charles Wesley (1744) – Tune Gopsal
1 Rejoice, the Lord is King! your Lord and King adore;
mortals give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice, again I say, rejoice!2 Jesus, the saviour, reigns, the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our stains he took his seat above;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!3 His kingdom cannot fail, he rules both earth and heaven,
the keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!4 He sits at God's right hand till all his foes submit,
and bow to his command, and fall beneath his feet:
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!5 Rejoice in glorious hope! Jesus the Judge shall come,
and take his servants up to their eternal home.
We soon shall hear the archangel's voice;
God's trumpet call shall sound, rejoice!

And Can It Be That I Should Gain
Charles Wesley (1738) - Tune: Sagina
1 And can it be that I should gain
An int'rest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!2 'Tis mystery all! Th' Immortal dies!Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine!
'Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
REFRAIN3 He left His Father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race;
'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
REFRAIN:4 Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free;
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.
REFRAIN:5 No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Walter C. Smith (1867) - Tune: St. Denio
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might,
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.3 To all, life thou givest, to both great and small.
In all life thou livest, the true life of all.
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.4 Great God of all glory, great God of all light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight.
All praise we would render; O help us to see
‘tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

How Bright These Glorious Spirits Shine!
Isaac Watts (1707); Altered: William Cameron (1781) Tune Beatitudo
1 How bright these glorious spirits shine!
Whence all their white array?
How came they to the blissful seats
of everlasting day?2 Lo! these are they from sufferings great
who came to realms of light,
and in the blood of Christ have washed
those robes that shine so bright.3 Now with triumphal palms they stand
before the throne on high,
and serve the God they love amidst
the glories of the sky.4 Hunger and thirst are felt no more,
nor sun with scorching ray:
God is their sun, whose cheering beams
diffuse eternal day.5 The Lamb, who dwells amid the throne,
shall o'er them still preside,
feed them with nourishment divine,
and all their footsteps guide.6 In pastures green he'll lead his flock
where living streams appear;
and God the Lord from every eye
shall wipe off every tear.

Jerusalem The Golden, With Milk And Honey Blest!
Bernard of Cluny; Translator: J. M. Neale - Tune: Ewing
1 Jerusalem the golden,
with milk and honey blest,
beneath your contemplation
sink heart and voice oppressed.
I know not, O I know not,
what joys await us there;
what radiancy of glory,
what bliss beyond compare.2 They stand, those halls of Zion,
all jubilant with song,
and bright with many an angel,
and all the martyr throng.
The Prince is ever in them,
the daylight is serene;
the pastures of the blessed
are decked in glorious sheen.3 There is the throne of David;
and there, from care released,
the song of them that triumph,
the shout of them that feast;
and they who with their Leader
have conquered in the fight,
forever and forever
are clad in robes of white.4 O sweet and blessed country,
the home of God's elect!
O sweet and blessed country
that eager hearts expect!
Jesus, in mercy bring us
to that dear land of rest;
who are, with God the Father
and Spirit, ever blest

We Plough The Fields, And Scatter
Translator: Jane M. Campbell; Author: Matthias Claudius (1782) - Tune: Wir Pflügen
1 We plough the fields and scatter
the good seed on the land,
but it is fed and watered
by God’s almighty hand.
God sends the snow in winter,
the warmth to swell the grain,
the breezes, and the sunshine,
and soft refreshing rain.Refrain:
All good gifts around us are sent from heav’n above.
We thank you, God, we thank you, God, for all your love.2 You only are the Maker
of all things near and far.
You paint the wayside flower,
you light the evening star.
The winds and waves obey you,
by you the birds are fed;
much more to us, your children,
you give our daily bread.
[Refrain]3 We thank you, then, Creator,
for all things bright and good,
the seed-time, and the harvest,
our life, our health, our food.
Accept the gifts we offer
for all your love imparts,
and what you most would welcome:
our humble, thankful hearts.

make music for thy God to hear,
alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
that givest all both warmth and light,
O sing ye, O sing ye, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!4 Dear mother earth, who day by day,
unfoldest blessings on our way,
alleluia, alleluia!
The flow’rs and fruits that in thee grow,
let them God’s glory also show,
O sing ye, O sing ye, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!5 And ev’ryone, with tender heart,
forgiving others, take your part,
alleluia, alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
sing praise and cast on God your care,
O sing ye, O sing ye, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!6 And thou, most kind and gentle death,
waiting to hush our final breath,
alleluia, alleluia!
Thou leadest home the child of God,

Come, Ye Faithful, Raise The Anthem
J. M. Neale & Job Hupton (1805) - Tune Unser Herrscher
1 Come, ye faithful, raise the anthem,
cleave the skies with shouts of praise;
sing to him who found the ransom,
Ancient of eternal Days,
God of God, the Word incarnate,
whom the heaven of heaven obeys.2 Ere he raised the lofty mountains,
formed the seas, or built the sky,
love eternal, free, and boundless,
moved the Lord of life to die,
fore-ordained the Prince of princes
for the throne of Calvary.3 There, for us and our redemption,
see him all his life-blood pour!
There he wins our full salvation,
dies that we may die no more;
then, arising, lives for ever,
reigning where he was before.4 High on yon celestial mountains
stands his sapphire throne, all bright,
midst unending alleluias
bursting from the sons of light;
Zion's people tell his praises,
victor after hard-won fight.5 Bring your harps, and bring your incense,
sweep the string and pour the lay;
let the earth proclaim his wonders,
King of that celestial day;
he the Lamb once slain is worthy,
who was dead, and lives for ay.6 Laud and honour to the Father,
laud and honour to the Son,
laud and honour to the Spirit,
ever Three and ever One,
consubstantial, co-eternal,
while unending ages run.

Blest Are The Pure In Heart, For They Shall See Our God
John Keble (1819) - Franconia (König)
1 Blest are the pure in heart,
for they shall see our God;
the secret of the Lord is theirs,
their soul is Christ's abode.2 The Lord, who left the heavens
our life and peace to bring,
to dwell in lowliness with men,
their pattern and their King;3 Still to the lowly soul
he doth himself impart,
and for his dwelling and his throne
chooseth the pure in heart.4 Lord, we thy presence seek;
may ours this blessing be;
give us a pure and lowly heart,
a temple meet for thee.

New Every Morning Is The Love
John Keble (1822) - Tune: Melcombe (Webbe)
1 New every morning is the love
our wakening and uprising prove;
through sleep and darkness safely brought,
restored to life and power and thought.2 New mercies, each returning day,
hover around us while we pray;
new perils past, new sins forgiven,
new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.3 If on our daily course our mind
be set to hallow all we find,
new treasures still, of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.4 The trivial round, the common task,
will furnish all we need to ask,
room to deny ourselves, a road
to bring us daily nearer God.5 Only, O Lord, in thy dear love
fit us for perfect rest above;
and help us, this and every day,
to live more nearly as we pray.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness, O God My Father
Thomas O. Chisholm (1923) - Tune: Faithfulness (Runyan)
1 “Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided -

And Now, O Father, Mindful Of The Love
William Bright (1874) - Tune: Unde Et Memores
1 And now, O Father, mindful of the love
that bought us, once for all, on Calvary's tree,
and having with us him that pleads above,
we here present, we here spread forth to thee
that only offering perfect in thine eyes,
the one true, pure, immortal sacrifice.2 Look, Father, look on his anointed face,
and only look on us as found in him;
look not on our misusing of thy grace,
our prayer so languid, and our faith so dim:
for lo, between our sins and their reward
we set the Passion of thy Son our Lord.3 And then for those, our dearest and our best,
by this prevailing presence we appeal:
O fold them closer to thy mercy's breast,
O do thine utmost for their souls' true weal;
from tainting mischief keep them white and clear,
and crown thy gifts with strength to persevere.4 And so we come: O draw us to thy feet,
most patient Saviour, who canst love us still;
and by this food, so aweful and so sweet,
deliver us from every touch of ill:
in thine own service make us glad and free,
and grant us never more to part with thee.

Praise To The Holiest In The Height
John Henry Newman (1865) - Tune: Gerontius
1. Praise to the Holiest in the height,
And in the depth be praise:
In all His words most wonderful;
Most sure in all His ways.2. O loving wisdom of our God,
When all was sin and shame,
He, the last Adam, to the fight
And to the rescue came.3. O wisest love! that flesh and blood
Which did in Adam fail,
Should strive afresh against the foe,
Should strive and should prevail.4. And that a higher gift than grace
Should flesh and blood refine,
God’s presence, and His very self
And essence all-divine.5. And in the garden secretly,
And on the cross on high,
Should teach His brethren, and inspire
To suffer and to die.6. Praise to the Holiest in the height,
And in the depth be praise:
In all His words most wonderful;
Most sure in all His ways.

Take Up Thy Cross, The Saviour Said
Charles William Everest (1814 – 1877) - Tune: Breslau,
1. Take up thy cross, the Saviour said,
If thou wouldst My disciple be;
Deny thyself, the world forsake,
And humbly follow after Me.2. Take up thy cross, let not its weight
Fill thy weak spirit with alarm;
His strength shall bear thy spirit up,
And brace thy heart and nerve thine arm.3. Take up thy cross, nor heed the shame,
Nor let thy foolish pride rebel;
Thy Lord for thee the cross endured,
And saved thy soul from death and hell.4. Take up thy cross then in His strength,
And calmly sin’s wild deluge brave,
’Twill guide thee to a better home,
It points to glory o’er the grave.5. Take up thy cross and follow Christ,
Nor think til death to lay it down;
For only those who bear the cross
May hope to wear the glorious crown.6. To Thee, great Lord, the One in Three,
All praise forevermore ascend:
O grant us in our home to see
The heavenly life that knows no end.

Henry Francis Lyte (1834) - Tune: Lauda Anima (Goss)
1 Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven;
To His feet thy tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Evermore His praises sing:
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.2 Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him still the same as ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Glorious in His faithfulness.3 Father like He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Widely yet His mercy flows.4 Frail as summer’s flow’r we flourish,
Blows the wind and it is gone;
But while mortals rise and perish,
Our God lives unchanging on.
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Praise the high Eternal One!5 Angels, help us to adore Him,
Ye behold Him face to face;
Sun and moon, bow down before Him;
Dwellers all in time and space,
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

All People That On Earth Do Dwell
William Kethe - Tune: Old Hundredth
1 All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.2 The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His folk, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.3 O enter then His gates with praise;
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His name always,
For it is seemly so to do.4 For why? the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.5 To Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
The God whom Heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel host
Be praise and glory evermore.

When Morning Gilds The Skies
Beim Frühen Morgenlicht
Translator: Rev. Edward Caswall (1854)
Tune: LAUDES DOMINI (Barnby)
1 When morning gilds the sky,
our hearts awaking cry:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
in all our work and prayer
we ask his loving care:
May Jesus Christ be praised!2 To God, the Word on high,
the hosts of angels cry:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let mortals too upraise
their voices in hymns of praise:
May Jesus Christ be praised!3 Let earth's wide circle round
in joyful notes resound:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let air and sea and sky
from depth to height reply:
May Jesus Christ be praised!4 Be this, when day is past,
of all our thoughts the last:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The night becomes as day
when from the heart we say:
May Jesus Christ be praised!5 Then let us join to sing
to Christ, our loving King:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this the eternal song
through all the ages long:
May Jesus Christ be praised!

O GOD, who declarest thy almighty power most chiefly in shewing mercy and pity: Mercifully grant unto us such a measure of thy grace, that we, running the way of thy commandments, may obtain thy gracious promises, and be made partakers of thy heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken
John Newton (1779)
1 Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;
he whose word cannot be broken
formed thee for his own abode;
on the Rock of Ages founded,
what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
thou may'st smile at all thy foes.2 See the streams of living waters,
springing from eternal love,
well supply thy sons and daughters,
and all fear of want remove;
who can faint while such a river
ever flows their thirst t'assuage?
Grace, which like the Lord, the giver,
never fails from age to age.3 Round each habitation hov'ring,
see the cloud and fire appear
for a glory and a cov'ring,
showing that the Lord is near;
thus deriving from their banner
light by night and shade by day,
safe they feed upon the manna
which he gives them when they pray.4 Saviour, if of Zion's city
I, thro' grace, a member am,
let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in thy name;
fading is the worldling's pleasure,
all his boasted pomp and show;
solid joys and lasting treasure
none but Zion's children know.

Ye Servants Of God! Your Master Proclaim
Author: Charles Wesley (1744)
1 You servants of God, your Master proclaim,
and publish abroad his wonderful name;
the name all-victorious of Jesus extol;
his kingdom is glorious and rules over all.2 God rules in the height, almighty to save;
though hid from our sight, his presence we have;
the great congregation his triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.3 "Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!"
let all cry aloud, and honour the Son;
the praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.4 Then let us adore and give him his right:
all glory and power, all wisdom and might,
all honour and blessing with angels above
and thanks never ceasing for infinite love.

Jesus, Where’re Thy People MeetWilliam Cowper (1769)
1 Jesus, where’re thy people meet,
there they behold thy mercy seat;
where’re they seek thee, thou art found,
and every place is hallowed ground.2 For you, within no walls confined,
inhabitest the humble mind;
such ever bring thee where they come,
and going, take thee to their home.3 Dear Shepherd of thy chosen few,
thy former mercies here renew;
here to our waiting hearts proclaim
the sweetness of thy saving name.4 Here may we prove the pow'r of prayer
to strengthen faith and sweeten care,
to teach our faint desires to rise,
and bring all heaven before our eyes.5 Lord, we are few, but thou art near;
nor short thine arm, nor deaf thine ear;
O rend the heavens, come quickly down,
and make a thousand hearts thine own.

O GOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth; We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which be profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
At The Name Of Jesus Every Knee Shall BowCaroline M. Noel (1870)
1 At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,
every tongue confess him king of glory now;
this the Father's pleasure, that we call him Lord,
who from the beginning was the mighty word.2 At his voice creation sprang at once to sight,
all the angel faces, all the hosts of light;
thrones and dominations, stars upon their way,
all the heavenly orders, in their great array.3 Humbled for a season, to receive a name
from the lips of sinners unto whom he came;
faithfully he bore it spotless to the last,
brought it back victorious when from death he passed.4 Bore it up triumphant with its human light,
through all ranks of creatures to the central height;
to the eternal Godhead, to the Father's throne,
filled it with the glory of his triumph won.5 Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death,
but with awe and wonder, and with bated breath;
he is God the saviour, he is Christ the Lord,
ever to be worshipped, trusted and adored.6 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue
all that is not holy, all that is not true;
crown him as your captain in temptation's hour,
let his will enfold you in its light and power.7 With his Father's glory Jesus comes again,
angel hosts attend him and announce his reign;
for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow,
and our hearts confess him king of glory now.

The God Of Abraham PraiseDaniel ben Judah - Paraphraser: Thomas Olivers (1770)
1 The God of Abraham praise,
who reigns enthroned above;
Ancient of Everlasting Days,
and God of Love;
Jehovah, great I AM!
by earth and heaven confessed;
I bow and bless the sacred name
forever blest.2 The great I AM has sworn;
I on this oath depend.
I shall, on eagle wings up borne,
to heaven ascend.
I shall behold God's face;
I shall God's power adore,
and sing the wonders of God's grace
forevermore.3 The heavenly land I see,
with peace and plenty blest;
a land of sacred liberty,
and endless rest.
There milk and honey flow,
and oil and wine abound,
and trees of life forever grow
with mercy crowned.4 The God who reigns on high
the great archangels sing,
and "Holy, holy, holy!" cry
"Almighty King!
Who was, and is, the same,
and evermore shall be:
Jehovah, Lord, the great I AM,
we worship thee!"

Thou, Whose Almighty WordJohn Marriott (1813)
1 God, your almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight:
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And where the gospel-day
Sheds not its glorious ray,
Let there be light!2 Saviour, you came to give
Those who in darkness live
Healing and sight,
Health to the troubled mind,
Sight to the inward blind:
Now to all humankind
Let there be light!3 Spirit of truth and love,
Life giving, holy dove,
Speed on your flight!
Move on the water's face
Bearing the lamp of grace
And, in earth's darkest place,
Let there be light!4 Holy and blessed Three,
Glorious Trinity,
Wisdom, Love, Might!
Boundless as ocean's tide,
Rolling in fullest pride,
Through the world, far and wide,
Let there be light!

Eternal Father, Strong To Save,William Whiting (1860)
1 Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm does bind the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.2 O Saviour, whose almighty word
The winds and waves submissive heard,
Who walked upon the foaming deep,
And calm amid the rage did sleep;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.3 O Holy Spirit, who did brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give for wild confusion peace;
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.4 O Trinity of love and pow'r,
Your children shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire, and foe,
Protect them where-so-e'er they go;
Thus, evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Who strove in Thee to live,
Who followed Thee, obeyed, adored,

Rejoice In God's Saints, Today And All Days!F Pratt Green (1903-2000)
1 Rejoice in God's Saints, today and all days;
a world without Saints forgets how to praise.
Their faith in acquiring the habit of prayer,
their depth of adoring, Lord, help us to share.2 Some march with events to turn them God's way;
some need to withdraw, the better to pray;
some carry the Gospel through fire and through flood:
our world is their parish; their purpose is God.3 Rejoice in those Saints, unpraised and unknown,
who bear someone's cross or shoulder their own;
they shame our complaining, our comforts, our cares:
what patience in caring, what courage, is theirs!4 Rejoice in God's Saints, today and all days;
a world without Saints forgets how to praise.
In loving, in living, they prove it is true:
the way of self-giving, Lord, leads us to you.

In the name of the Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost
Almighty and living God, Thank you for this day, anoint us with your Holy Spirit to understand your living word. In Jesus' name, we pray.
Today we are on the 5th Sunday after Trinity. This Trinity season reminds us of the call to grow in our Christian Life. And we are feeding our soul to lead us more to a life of holiness and sacrifice.When we mediate from OT reading, we see the account of the call of Elisha. After encountering the Baal prophets on Mount Carmel, Elijah flees to Beer Sheba from Queen Jezebel, who was after his life. Elijah was exhausted and was hiding in a cave. The word of the Lord came to him in a small voice and said, who will take up his ministry after him.
Elisha was the person who will take over. When Elijah cast his mantle upon him and was touched by it –he leaves everything to follow him. He slaughtered the animals through which he made his living and used his yokes as wood to cook and made a feast for his family and the whole community from which he came.The insight from this passage teaches us no turning back once we are on a clean break. As a child of God, once we are in His fellowship, under his protection, under his refuge, no turning back to the sins we had committed when we were in darkness, and now we need a clean break. Elisha understood his calling, and he knew surely that God would provide his daily bread and pray that the mantle of Jesus touches us to know His calling in our lives.When we read the Epistle reading from first Peter talks about the marks of the Christian life, first in unity, then sympathy, brotherly love and compassion, humility, and forgiveness. And he speaks about the Christian attitude to suffering. To a child of God, Jesus Christ is the supremacy in life and his relationship with him. Suppose a child of God who sets his heart on earthly things, possessions, power, pleasure, and comfort even after his calling may lose these things at any moment. And after our high calling, if we follow our Lord by giving a unique place in our life journey, we are safe and completely secure.In our Gospel reading, we see Peter, James, and John had finished fishing all night, but they found nothing and would have been disappointed, discouraged, or distressed. They saw Jesus and saw people pressing on him to hear the word of God from him, and Peter may be listing in half-heartedness and mending his net. Jesus tells Peter to go out once again and let loose the net. Peter explains his doubts but follows Jesus in faith, not expecting a full, but when he saw his catch, his reactions were different, and he sees God's glory through Jesus Christ and says Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.To learn this morning from the passages, Elijah's mantle touched Elisha; he understood the calling-a clean break. He burned it but did not store it or placed the yokes in a safe place to be used later. He was assured that God would lead him, and when we see in Peter's life his calling from Jesus to catch men from now on. He ultimately could not understand his calling, so we see in John chapter 21 that Peter went back to fishing after his death.If we trust and follow him in faith the commands, we see in our lives a fruitful bearing which God has purposed in us.May God bless us all through this hearing of His word.
In Jesus' Name., Amen
I Come With JoyAuthor: Brian Wren 1936
1 I come with joy, a child of God,
forgiven, loved, and free,
the life of Jesus to recall,
in love laid down for me.2 I come with Christians far and near
to find, as all are fed,
the new community of love
in Christ's communion bread.3 As Christ breaks bread and bids us share,
each proud division ends.
The love that made us makes us one,
and strangers now are friends.4 The spirit of the risen Christ,
unseen, but ever near,
is in such friendship better known:
alive and among us here.5 Together met, together bound,
by all that God has done,
we'll go with joy, to give the world,
the love that makes us one.

Jesus Good Above All OtherAuthor: Percy Dearmer (1906)
Tune: Quem Pastores
1 Jesus, good above all other,
Gentle Child of gentle mother,
In a stable born our Brother,
Give us grace to persevere.2 Jesus, cradled in a manger,
For us facing every danger,
Living as a homeless Stranger,
Make we Thee our King most dear.3 Jesus, for Thy people dying,
Risen Master, death defying,
Lord in Heav’n, Thy grace supplying,
Keep us by Thine altar near.4 Jesus, Who our sorrows bearest,
All our thoughts and hopes Thou sharest,
Thou to man the truth declarest;
Help us all Thy truth to hear.5 Lord, in all our doings guide us;
Pride and hate shall ne’er divide us;
We’ll go on with Thee beside us,
And with joy we’ll persevere!

1 Ye choirs of new Jerusalem,
your sweetest notes employ,
the Paschal victory to hymn
in strains of holy joy.2 For Judah's Lion burst his chains,
and crushed the serpent's head;
and brought with him, from death's domains,
the long-imprisoned dead.3 From hell's devouring jaws the prey
alone our leader bore;
his ransomed hosts pursue their way
where he hath gone before.4 Triumphant in his glory now
his sceptre ruleth all:
earth, heav'n and hell before him bow
and at his footstool fall.5 While joyful thus his praise we sing,
his mercy we implore,
into his palace bright to bring,
and keep us evermore.6 All glory to the Father be,
all glory to the Son,
all glory, Holy Ghost, to thee,
while endless ages run.
